MEET & WELCOME Barb Bettegnies, Creative Knitting Magazine editor . . .
Knitting has been a part of my life as long as I can remember, and Mother taught me to knit at age 4. Since then I have tried about every kind of project imaginable, from potholders to self-designed garments. I have been teaching knit classes, both in local yarn shops and as an independent instructor, for eight years. This has enabled me to meet the nicest people and to continue learning new tricks and skills to this day. As Lorna Miser says, teaching knitting is a wonderful way to knit people together. Taking knit classes and workshops with a wide variety of instructors has given me a broad knowledge of knit tips and techniques, and it is great fun to invent a solution to another knitter’s situation on the spot. I have made every error that can be made and have usually found a way to correct each one, often without visiting the frog pond too many times.
During my three years as editor of Creative Knitting Magazine, one of the most rewarding aspects of the position was discovering and encouraging new designers to contribute their submissions for publication. Now that chapter is coming to a close and I am able to visit more yarn shops, a favorite activity of mine. I am looking forward to meeting and teaching more knitters in new locations as I continue to increase my own personal stash of fabulous yarns!
